Psyko Steve’s Phoenix Independents Bowl Returns

Phoenix Independents Bowl at Let it Roll Bowl, Indie Bowl, Psyko Steve, Local First Arizona, bowling tournament

The fourth year of the somewhat-annual Phoenix Independents Bowl will take place on Sunday, June 22. Dozens of teams will participate in the all-ages bowling tournament presented by Psyko Steve Presents and Local First Arizona at Let It Roll Bowl, an indepedently owned bowling alley. The four-member teams will be comprised of independent-minded citizens, businesses and musicians from the Valley.

Stephen Chilton, owner of the Psyko Steve promotion company, started the bowling tournament in 2008 as a way to bring together the Valley scene. After three consecutive years of the Bowl, Chilton postponed the event in 2011 to focus on other projects. “I never thought that we would push back the fourth Indie Bowl more than a few months, but three years later I am pleased that it is finally coming back,” said Chilton.

We’re no tweener, stroker or cranker, but we’ve hit a few strikes in our time and one of the many lessons we learned from The Big Lebowski: “This is not ‘Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.

The Indie Bowl is bowling and there are rules. The tournament will include teams of four that will each bowl no fewer than two games before advancing to the championship round of the playoffs. Those interested in participating must register in advance and pay $80 per team, which covers shoe rental and bowl time. No refunds will be issued and teams must prepay and register in advance to paricipate. The winning team will walk away with bragging rights, bigger heads and some “sweet trophies.” Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Local First Arizona (the Dude abides!), a non-profit organization determined to strengthen Arizona‘s local communities and economies.

The event will take place at Let it Roll Bowl at 12th Street and Dunlap Avenue in Phoenix at noon on Sunday, June 22. All ages are welcome! Food will be available for purchase, as well as alcoholic beverages via a cash bar. Live entertainment, in addition to the bowling, will include performances by local musicians.
