Dave Grohl’s ‘Sound City’ Playing at FilmBar

Sound City

In a day and age where everything is manipulated digitally, especially music, how do we keep the human element? This is a question Dave Grohl explores in “Sound City,” his filmmaking debut.

To name a few, Fleetwood Mac, Guns and Roses, Johnny Cash, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers have all recorded at Sound City. However, due to the changing times and the movement from the studio’s vintage analog recording to digital, the Los Angeles studio was forced to close in 2011.

“Sound City” features interviews with many of the musicians who once recorded at the studio during its three decades of operation. The documentary also includes Grohl and a team of icons including Stevie Nicks, Neil YoungTom Petty, Trent Reznor, Rick Springfield and Paul McCartney, jamming together to create a new album that celebrates the human element of music in a digital world.

“Sound City” is playing at FilmBar in Phoenix for the next two weeks.
