2015 Record Store Day Around Phoenix
Since it was created in 2007, Record Store Day has been one of the most anticipated holidays for music fans. The annual event is meant to recognize independent record stores that keep the spirit of music alive in the modern day. This year, RSD falls on April 18 and the event ambassador is Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.
Special RSD events are scheduled in many parts of the world, including Phoenix. It can be overwhelming to decide on what to buy (see all RSD 2015 special releases) and where to go (search participating venues). If you want to spend all day at one place, situate yourself at Stinkweeds. The Phoenix record store will be hosting live music and giveaways, and stocked with more than 350 Record Store Day goodies. Doors open at 9 A.M. and the first 100 customers will receive bags filled with gifts from local businesses, music paraphernalia (posters, stickers, etc) from bands and labels, and free tickets to upcoming shows.
“Stinkweeds has collaborated with Silverplatter.info, Yab Yum Music and Art and 513 Analog Studios to bring you the very first exclusive Stinkweeds Record Store Day Local Music Comp! This features 12 of our favorite bands and will be included in the first 100 gift bags, or can be purchased for a small price, at Stinkweeds,” says the record store.
From 11 A.M. on, the parking lot will play host to Short Leash Hot Dogs food truck, spinning by DJ Bruce, and live performances by Through and Through Gospel Review, Bear State, Rising Sun Daughter.
There are four Zia locations around the Phoenix area that also open at 9 A.M. on Saturday and host live music throughout the day. The shops will have more than 400 vinyl exclusives available for purchase. “In addition to the hundreds of RSD exclusives for sale, Zia will host in-store performances and signings with bands and artists throughout the day at all store locations, giving out some great freebies, food carts offering their most delicious treats and more,” says the company.
If you want to go from store to store, here’s the schedule for in-store performances: Zia Camelback – Built to Spill (noon), Bear Ghost (2 P.M.), Serene Dominic (3 P.M.), Ntuit (4 P.M.), Fairy Bones (5 P.M.); Zia Mill – Pistoleros (2 P.M.), Carol Pacey & the Honey Shakers (3 P.M.), Banana Gun (4 P.M.), Le Zets (6 P.M.); Zia Thunderbird – Echo 4our (4 P.M.), Nomado (5 P.M.); Zia Alma School – The SunPunchers – Betsy solo performance (2 P.M.), Le Zets (3 P.M.), The Venomous Pinks (4 P.M.), Dwarf (5 P.M.).
MIXTAPE MANDI TOUR
People interested in exploring what Phoenix record stores have to offer and mingling with like-minded music enthusiasts should join in on the Mixtape Mandi tour, which will make stops at Zia Records, Stinkweeds and Revolver Records.

CHIPOTLE CULTIVATE FESTIVAL
If you’re in festival mode, make a trip to Westworld of Scottsdale for the free-admission Chipotle Cultivate Festival that celebrates music, food and ideas.
