Smokey Robinson’s Smoke Alarm Program

Smoke Alarm, Smokey Robinson

Smoke Alarm is a new emergency broadcast network powered by social media. Established in partnership with American musician Smokey Robinson, the program is designed to aggregate Facebook and Twitter feeds and influence them to drive action and awareness to key issues that need immediate attention.

Robinson’s music career began in the 1950s. Over more than 50 years, the R & B singer-songwriter as served as a frontman of the Motown group The Miracles, established a successful solo career, and worn the hat of record producer and record executive.

Although his newest project is not directly related to music, it aims to give a voice to those who are without, ensuring that all people have access to basic human necessities. When the alarm sounds, people use their social feed to share news about a problem and donations are made to help move important projects along.

More than 81 million people, including many celebrities, have joined Robinson in his quest. The first alarm sounded in late September on behalf of the P & G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program. It is estimated that thousands of children die on a daily basis because they do not have access to clean drinking water. In the eight years that the Procter & Gamble non-profit organization has been in operation, it has given over five billion liters of clean water to those in need. An offering that is believed to have saved over 26,000 lives.

Smoke Alarm is a way for people to get involved and give to those in need. Even if one is unable to donate money, he or she can still spread the word about an important issue that needs to be addressed. Those interested in adding their voice to the project can sign up through the official Smoke Alarm website.
