The Pressroom: Downtown Phoenix’s Newest Venue
On Feb.14, Arizona celebrated its 102nd birthday and Phoenix received one of the best gifts for a growing city: a new entertainment venue. The building formerly known as Madison Event Center, officially reopened last week as The Pressroom. Located in downtown Phoenix’s warehouse district at 441 W. Madison St, the 14,000-square-foot building was constructed in the 1920s and at one time housed one of the state’s printing presses.
Under new ownership, the building holds promising potential as a Phoenix hotspot for concerts, private parties, weddings, visual and performance arts, sporting events and corporate meetings. Owners Jason Charles and Narender Raju have put a lot of work into ensuring patrons receive a full-service experience while attending the venue for an event. The Pressroom has a full liquor license, professional visual and audio equipment, indoor and outdoor space to comfortably house more than 1,000 patrons, and connections with Danny Zelisko Presents, a promotion company that has brought shows to the Valley since 1974.
“Downtown Phoenix is ready for a mid-sized concert venue.” said Zelisko. “There’s nothing like seeing a big name or someone on their way up in their career, in an intimate space to connect you to the experience.”
With the shared experience and know-how the Pressroom team has, this venue is not expected to fall short of entertaining the city’s inhabitants. Charles is also the owner of Latest Craze Productions, a full-service audio visual production company, and Raju owns RSVP Special Events. Zelisko has been a show promoter for more than 30 years, founded Evening Star Productions and ran it until 2001, and now hosts a weekly radio show called Phoenix Finest Rock every Thursday night on KWSS 93.9 FM.
Track updates on the venue’s Facebook. Three upcoming events that have been solidified on the schedule: The Decibel Magazine Tour featuring Carcass, The Black Dahlia Murder, Goguts, Noisem and Gog on March 24, Cowtown’s PHXAM After Party featuring DEATH on April 5, and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls on April 16.
PRO TIP: If you share the venue’s Facebook page on your wall and leave a comment on the giveaway post before Friday, Feb. 21, you could be one of three winners who will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming show.
