The Very Best Partner with Invisible Children

What do you get when you mix Super Mom and Invisible Children? The Very Best’s newest collaboration.

Over more than four years of music making, The Very Best, which is one part Esau Mwamwaya and one part Johan Karlberg, has collaborated with the Ruby Suns, M.I.A., Architecture in Helsinki, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, Santigold, BLK JKS and now, Invisible Children.

Invisible Children is involved in a cause that hits close to home for singer Mwamwaya, who grew up in Lilongwe, Malawi, not far from Northern Uganda, where the organization’s efforts are focused. With help from volunteers, students, artists, activists and entrepreneurs, Invisible Children has used film and storytelling to give a loud voice to individuals who have been affected by the war in Uganda that has prevailed for more than 20 years.

The Very Best’s partnership with Invisible Children is realized in a limited-edition t-shirt that takes after the duo’s latest music production, Super Mom Mixtape (released on Mother’s Day 2011). The unisex, gray tee features a woman, presumably a mother, walking on a dirt path and has “The Very Best Super Mom” written in white text. There are only a few hundred shirts available at $20 each.

Mwamwaya, even after his move to London in 1999 where he met and joined forces with the men of Radioclit, has stayed in touch with his roots. He has successfully incorporated traditional Malawi music and Chichewa, the language of Malawi, into his art form and is now involved in a cause that extends further into Africa.

In addition to their t-shirt, The Very Best has offered up two free remixes of “Ndekha” a track from their (also free) Super Mom Mixtape. The remixes were done by Tropical Bass producer WILDLIFE! and UK garage producer Wookie and are available on SoundCloud.

The limited-edition Super Mom t-shirt can be purchased at the Invisible Children online store. For more information, visit the organization’s website.
