epic maker instrument challenge, instrument challenge, ome, oh my ears, techshop chandler, techshop, phoenix events, upcoming eventsEpic maker of instruments. Maybe you’ve considered adding this to your résumé or job application, under additional skills, but nixed the idea when you realized it wasn’t that relevant…until now. This month, Oh My Ears (OME) is hosting its first-ever Epic Maker Instrument Challenge and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M. at TechShop in Chandler. D.I.Y.-ers, crafters, music MacGyvers, mad scientists and spectators are all welcome.

Those who choose to accept the challenge should begin dusting off their thinking caps, cracking their knuckles and getting to work on a new, epic instrument. Online applications, available on the OME website, are accepted until midnight on Friday, Nov. 21 or until contestant spots are filled. In addition to creating a one-of-a-kind instrument, challengers must name the creation and put together a short and sweet presentation. Of course, the best instruments work, so contestants must be prepared to play theirs to prove it worthy.

Set up for challengers will take place from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on the day of the event. Participants must bring their instruments in to confirm their entries. People can enter as a team (of no more than three) or as an individual (take all the glory). There will be multiple winners chosen by audience vote (so invite your friends). Prizes will include day passes to the next “Oh My God, My Body, My Ears” marathon concert to take place on Feb. 21 at Trunk Space, a chance to perform at said concert, and goodies from TechShop, Fender and other local businesses.

The challenge entry fee is $5 for spectators or free for those who bring a baked good. Challengers must pay $12 advance or $15 the day of (before 4 P.M.). Proceeds from the event help support the annual “Oh My God, My Body, My Ears” 10-hour marathon concert featuring music by living composers.
