3rd Annual OME Marathon Concert to Be Held at Mesa Arts Center
Oh My Ears (OME), a not-for-profit organization working hard to connect the community through music, will host its 3rd annual marathon concert on Jan. 23 at Mesa Arts Center. The 10-hour event (noon to 10 P.M.) will include live performances by local composers and ensembles, as well as University of Missouri‘s Exit 128 Orchestra, members of New York‘s award-winning experimental group thingNY, and the flute-guitar duo Keith/Larson.
The full lineup: Gulch, Exit 128 Chamber Orchestra (University of Missouri), Orange Crush (Parker Davis, guitar), Kristilyn Woods – bassoon, LORKAS (Laptop Orchestra of Arizona State), Keith/Larson Duo, Megyn Neff – violin, Josh Bennet – clarinet/Black Air, Althea Pergakis, Allyson Wuenscel – viola, Jeffrey Young and Paul Pinto from thingNY performing Patriots…, Holly Pyle – voice/electronics, Driftwood Quintet, ASU Chapter of Society of Composers, Joe Perez and Friends – percussion performing Michael Gordon’s Timber, and Aleksey Izotov – composer/pianist.
This year the event will include Musical Maps, which encourages audience members to “draw certain pieces of music” and share their creations on social media using the hashtag “#musicalmaps.” Another new element for 2016 is Meet the Audience: “You can—right now—go to ohmyears.com to upload a sound/spoken/musical clip for Josh Bennett (clarinet/electronics) to turn into a new work at the marathon concert. Who will we get to meet?” says OME event organizer Elizabeth Kennedy Bayer in a press release.
