NPR Hosts Tiny Desk Concert Contest

Tiny Desk Concert contest, nor tiny desk concert, npr contest

For years, All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen has allowed up-and-coming and well-known musical acts to share his office space for intimate and stripped-down performances. NPR Music and Lagunitas Brewing Company are currently hosting a contest to give one musical act the door-opening opportunity to play a Tiny Desk Concert. Yes, one winner will win the chance to play at Boilen’s desk at the NPR headquarters in Washington D.C..

“To enter, make a video of you performing one original song behind a desk of your choosing. It could be your work desk, your home office or the product of your imagination. We’re looking for great unknowns, so if you already have a recording contract, you’ll have to sit this one out.” That’s pretty much it.

Video entries should be uploaded to YouTube (must be under 10 minutes; no covers allowed). Applicants must also fill out the form here. This contest runs through Jan. 19, 2015 and is open to all legal residents of the United States and District of Columbia, 21 or older only.

The judges are Boilen, Robin Hilton (All Songs considered co-host), John Congleton (producer), and Tiny Desk alumni Valerie June, Thao Nguyen and Reggie Watts. All submissions will be scored based on musical quality and appeal, originality, and stage presence and charisma. One act will be selected and announced as the winner in February 2015. The prize includes travel accommodations to Washington D.C. where the Tiny Desk session will be recorded, as well as a spotlight in the Lagunitas’ “CouchTrippin’ to Austin” show due to air in March 2015.
