Cassette tapes are making a spirited comeback. Independent artists, DIY music labels and the many thrift stores that sell great albums in cassette form for less than a dollar are, in part, to thank for this revival.

MakerBot Industries, a NY-based printing company, recently rereleased its popular 3-D mixtape. The cassette, which has had some upgrades since its debut in 2012, functions as an MP3 player. It offers 4GB of storage and comes in bright color combinations. The new models feature improvements to user interface to improve overall experience.

These cassettes may look old, but they’re hip to technology. Users can upload their favorite songs to the player and also use it for storing 3-D model files. The mixtape is currently available for only $40 at MakerBot’s retail stores in New York, Greenwich and Boston. Those not in close proximity to these stores have plenty of 3-D design goodness to browse through on the company’s website and webstore.
