MP3: The Zzips ‘We Could Be Anything’
Together, James Butler and Graham Cupples are The Zzips. Self-described as “a new wave of modern indie blues-based music,” the two musicians have been creating together for many years. They started receiving attention for their music in 2000, which was also the year when a flood in the studio put their production on hold. Now, 15 years later, Butler and Cupples have settled back into their groove and are ready to release their debut full-length album, 20 Years Late, on July 21.
In “We Could Be Anything,” one of the first singles from the forthcoming LP, the Sussex duo focuses on the Internet-infused dystopia of today. In a matter-of-fact, bluesy manner, the track speaks on the “oversaturated” society we live in where plugged-in people exist in “connected isolation.” It’s a track that is sad yet relevant, and a true sampling of what the band has to offer.
