Nate Brenner, best known as the tUnE-yArDs bassist and brain behind Naytronix, is back with new music. Mister Divine, out Oct. 16 on City Slang Records, is Brenner’s first release since Dirty Glow hit the shelves in October 2012. The title track and first single from the sophomore LP is whimsical and easygoing. While different than the “funky party dance anthems” on the debut, it is distinctly Naytronix.

Finding the time and motivation to hone in on one’s talents and compile enough music for an album can be hard. Doing it while on the road is even more difficult. Brenner has spent the past four years touring with tUnE-yArDs, the music project of Merrill Garbus, and squeezing in as much time as possible for his solo work. His new music was conceived on the road — hotel rooms, tour buses, backstage, basement studios. The material was originally made for DJ sets, but some tender loving care at New, Improved Recording saw the material grow into a nine-track album featuring support from Brenner’s musical allies Mark Allen-Piccolo, Robert Lopez, Matt Nelson, Noah Bernstein and Michael Coleman.
