The name Donald Cumming might bring to mind The Virgins, a now-defunct rock band that was founded and fronted by Cumming between 2006 and 2013. On June 16, the musician will release his 10-track debut solo album, Out Calls Only. The album is a major step for Cumming who fully intends to continue his music career as a solo artist and shows great potential. He has released samples of what’s to come on the LP with singles “Game of the Heart,” and more recently, “Workin’ It Out.”

“I don’t listen to a lot of contemporary music, but it seems to me there is a trend that favors aesthetics over content,” Cumming is quoted in a press release. “You hear the same tropes in every band’s story, everybody’s press release. It’s all the same bullshit. I think it is infinitely easier to just be honest. I don’t have an aesthetic or a sound that I’m looking for as much as I want to be as sincere as possible.”

Out Calls Only was recorded in New York at East Village Recording Center and Sullivan Street Studios, and will be out on Washington Square/Razor and Tie next week.
