MP3: Choir of Young Believers ‘Patricia’s Thirst’

Four years after the release of their debut full-length, This Is for the White in Your Eyes, Denmark‘s Choir of Young Believers is set to release a new album, Rhine Gold.

The band, guided by vocalist and songwriter Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, has released “Patricia’s Thirst.” The single is the second track on their forthcoming nine-track album, due March 20 on Ghostly International.

“Patricia’s Thirst,” is reminiscent of the 1980s and certainly more dance-inducing than is expected of COYB. The orchestral-pop project, which now has a proper lineup, is expected to continue on where they left off with their debut album.

Though the band name may suggest otherwise, Choir of Young Believers began as a solo project of Makrigiannis. Following the 2006 breakup of his former band, Lake Placid, Makrigiannis moved from Copenhagen to Samos, a Greek island.

It was in Samos that he began building his solo material. He later moved back to Copehagen, where he recruited friends and musicians as the final touches to his work. COYB is known for producing “magisterial melodies, dark lyrical concerns, and a healthy dose of cathedral-grade reverb.”
