What I Learned at Bandcamp: Webs

Webs, Bandcamp, Interview, Q&A

Danny Levie, Tim Lormor and Dominic Mena met through Craigslist and formed Webs this year. Although the band is new, it has already released a three-track demo on Bandcamp and has shows lined up throughout Phoenix.

If you’re into psychedelic music or looking to hear something new in the valley music community, make sure to follow Webs on Facebook and attend any of a number of upcoming shows.

This Saturday, July 27, catch the band live at the Trunk Space with St Ranger, Twin Steps and Bear State. On Wednesday, July 31, Webs plays at The Sail Inn alongside Lestra Stone, 30 Day Notice and Mod Zombies.

The Spec caught up with Webs about its musical inspirations and when we can expect more great music, read what the band had to say below…

How did you meet and form the band?
WEBS: We all met on Craigslist. And we didn’t get killed or even violated.

Who/what are your influences?
Danny: I love new and old music. Stuff like The Beatles, Little Richard, Elvis, The Who and lots of 50’s/60’s artists as well as new bands like Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala, Here We Go Magic. The list gets really long.

Tim: Akron/Family, The Black Angels, Deerhunter, Animal Collective… People, altered states of consciousness, the world around us.

Dominic: All music done with feeling. Department of Eagles, Broken Social Scene, Bob Dylan, Os Mutantes

Do you have plans to release a full-length in the near future?
WEBS: Right now, we are concentrating on an EP for the near future. But possibly in some months after that.

Upcoming projects, where do you want to go from here?
Tim: Right now we want to play shows around Phoenix, and get involved in the local scene. We’ll see where we go from there.

What inspires your music?
Danny: I like to write songs about nature and nostalgia. But pretty much any emotion that I think would translate nicely into a song.

Dominic: Being able to contribute to a collage of sounds and working with the band to make something great

Tim: Everything under the sun.

What musicians or bands do you look up to?
Dominic: I look up to musicians like Paul Mccartney and Daniel Rossen, who can craft songs that get stuck in your head for months. I especially like musicians that surprise me by taking the song to a different place.

Danny: I’m a big fan of the greats like John Lennon, James Brown. Also, all of the bands I mentioned as influences. And I’m really impressed with local Phoenix bands, I’ve just seen so much talent around here lately. It’s really motivating.

Who are some of your favorite local bands?
Tim: Wooden Indian, Gospel Claws.

Dominic: I appreciate all local musicians doing what they love to do.

Danny: Most of them. I think there are too many to name here, just really impressive.

Why do you make music?
Tim: It’s what I love to do. The rest of the world disappears when I’m playing drums. All the problems and pains of life melt away when I’m playing music.

Danny: I love to be able to share good and bad times with people through a language that transcends anything that only words can portray. It’s just the best feeling and lots of fun.

Dominic: Music is my passion and can’t imagine doing anything else that would feel as gratifying. I’m always happy when I’m playing an instrument.

Anything else you’d like readers to know that we haven’t asked you about?
Danny: Support your local music. We are really lucky to have a great music collective here, so it’s important to let them know.

Dominic: We’re really excited to have the chance to play all the great venues AZ has to offer and to share some good times with good people

Tim: We love you.
