What I Learned at Bandcamp: The Creeps

The Creeps, Bandcamp

Andrew McKee and Brant Stuns are The Creeps, a brand new band based out of New York. The men recorded music for years with the band The Young Friends before breaking off to start The Creeps together.

The band released debut album Hell on July 2. In true KP Records USA fashion, the album is available for free download on Bandcamp. Fans can also purchase a hand-painted cassette tape for $1. The cassette marks the record label’s first physical release.

Read The Spec‘s interview with the band and listen tracks, below…

Who/what are your influences?
We’re really into Adore and Japanese Whispers. We were trying to make something a bit more unsettling than The Young Friends stuff.

How did you come up with your name?
We came up with it a few years ago and it just stuck as the name.

Upcoming projects, where do you want to go from here?
Any time we’re in the same city we’ll do a new album.

What are your favorite songs off the new album?
We did the last song on the album with Connor Hanwick (The Drums) and it turned out really cool.

Why did you decide to also release the album as a cassette?
Because we can practically give cassettes away for free.

What inspires your music?
We were watching a lot of horror movies and anime when recording the album so I suppose that played a big part.

What musicians or bands do you look up to?
We’re not sure if anyone has really defined the sound of 2013 yet.

Why do you make music?
Because we don’t have the means to make films.

Anything else you’d like readers to know that we haven’t asked you about?
If you liked The Young Friends, you probably won’t like The Creeps too much. Good luck and thanks for the Q&A.
