Who/what are your influences?
We all have different influences, but we can all agree on Neil Young, Bowie and the Beach Boys.

How did you come up with your name?
One night we were watching Back to the Future and this bird flew into our window and was writhing around on the ground outside–she was clearly going to die. Before she died she said “Come closer,” so we got very close to her beak to hear what she had to say. She asked one of us to fetch her children and tend to them as they would surely die without a mother to bring them food. We agreed to watch her offspring until they could fly away and become mothers of their own. After this, she seemed so happy and whispered, “the name of your band…the name of your band is…(coughing)…” and before she could finish, she died with her message going unheard–children by her side. Shortly thereafter, each of her children miraculously began flying around in circles as if her mother’s spirit and gone into them and they all came fluttering up to us and in joyous unison said “BIKE COPS!” Out of the mouths of babes. It was crazy.

Upcoming projects, where do you want to go from here?
Piehl Sessions Vol 3. then the world…but really we are planning on recording a full-length album after that and doing some touring. Currently we just play in Chicago and the surrounding states.

What are your favorite songs off the new album?
Dave likes “Envelope Man,” a song Kevin wrote. This song has changed a lot from when he first played it for me. I really love the lyrics and it used to get stuck in my head a lot when we were recording it. Kevin lovesĀ “Runaway” because it’s a rockin’ tune and there is a sweet psychedelic noise part at the end. Ashley loves “Prisoner” because she gets to play the keys for one song and likes the 6/8 breakdown. Dan loves “Ursula” because he lost his virginity to that song.

What inspires your music?
Change. Abstract. Time spent alone. Hangin’ out.

What musicians or bands do you look up to?
Dave: Peter Buck from REM. Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce of The Smiths are the most criminally underrated rhythm section to ever exist.
Kevin: I’m a huge fan of Robert Schneider from The Apples in Stereo. His production is almost as fantastic as his music. Also, dude made a mind controlled instrument — which is so fucking cool.
Ashley is in love with David Bowie, enough said.

Why do you make music?
Do what you love, man.

Anything else you’d like readers to know that we haven’t asked you about?
Can’t wait to make it to the West Coast.
