What I Learned at Bandcamp: Shurman

Shurman, Last Exit Live, Bandcamp

Austin-based Shurman walks the line between country and rock’n’roll and is gaining a reputation as a must-see live act. The group just completed a European tour and is currently raising funds to record a new album with Texas-legend Ray Wylie Hubbard.

Shurman has roots dating back to 1990, when Aaron Beavers and Damon Allen met in high school and formed a garage band. The group was put on hold for almost 10 years with the guys attending college in different states. They remained friends and would frequently send songs back and forth. Eventually, the two both lived in Los Angeles and began releasing music under the Shurman name. The band has gone through multiple lineup changes along the way, with Allen leaving in 2008, and currently features Beavers, Mike Therieau, Harley Husbands and Clint Short.

On Friday, Dec. 20, Shurman will roll through Phoenix to play Last Exit Live with Dead Hot Workshop. The Shurman and Family Holiday Jubilee begins at 9 P.M. and will also feature friends and family from Valley bands Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, The Pistoleros, Tramps & Thieves, and more.
