What I Learned at Bandcamp: French Cassettes

LIKE Magazine shoot in San Francisco.

Mackenzie Bunch, Scott Huerta, Thomas Huerta and Ben Isganitis grew up in the same small town, attended the same small high school and were involved in the same small music department. Six years ago they formed French Cassettes.

The band released EP Summer Darling in August and is currently on tour throughout California and Texas for SXSW. The tour includes a stop in Phoenix at The Trunk Space on March 19 at 7:30 P.M.. Event details can be found on Facebook.

Check out The Spec‘s interview with guitarist/keyboardist Mackenzie Bunch and listen to some tunes, below…

Who or what are your influences?
We all have different influences and come from different musical backgrounds, but we share the same love for straight-up, good songwriting. Structure, dynamics, and style are three very important qualities that we look for in songs.

How did you come up with your name?
We were bored one summer and were rummaging through Scott’s room. We came across some really interesting cassette tapes from a French songwriter that I can’t remember the name of. Handwritten on the back of the case was “This is your name.” BOOM!

Upcoming projects, where do you want to go from here?
We are in the process of recording a full-length album, due to be released by the end of the year. Other than that, world domination.

What inspires your music?
Smiles.

Why do you make music?
To make people happy.
