The Archives: November, December
Once a month, The Spec editors will compile a list of articles published on The Spec in years past. The Archives is an opportunity for SPECtators, both old and new, to explore content that may have gone under the radar.
Check out goodies from Novembers and Decembers of the past…
“Shining Soul: ‘Hip-Hop Is Resistance’,” originally published Nov. 30, 2011
Shining Soul is a hip-hop duo based out of Phoenix that is doing a lot. They are using their musical talents to help inspire change. This interview is one of my favorites and allowed us to get to know the artists on a different level.
“The Challenge,” originally published Nov. 16, 2011
I stand by everything I wrote in this post. Sometimes I have to remind myself to follow my own advice and savor the moment rather than save it. This can be hard, especially when I’m put on the guest list to do work (document what happens), but I try and you should too.
“Photos: Tennis, Miniature Tigers, Gospel Claws,” originally published Dec. 7, 2011
I had a lot of fun shooting this show. Looking back at these photos is a nice reminder of a brilliant show.
“Video: ‘Why Do You Make Music?’,” originally published Dec. 21, 2012
We’ve done a lot of “What I Learned at Bandcamp” posts over the years. One of my favorite questions that we ask is “Why do you make music?” The answers are very insightful, diverse and inspiring, which is why I made this compilation video.
“Review, Photos, Videos: Future Islands, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Peachcake at Rhythm Room,” originally published Nov. 21, 2011
This show introduced me to Future Islands and it’s one I’ll never forget.
“SPECTATOUR: On the Road with Races, Pt. 1,” originally published Nov. 26, 2012
We spent the night with Los Angeles band Races at Crescent, then traveled with the band the following day to Tucson, interviewing and filming along the way. One of the favorite Spec moments.
“The Spec’s 2011 Favorites: Concerts,” originally published Dec. 28, 2011
We started The Spec in 2011 and I’ll always remember the concerts I saw that year as my introduction into the local music scene.
“Photos, Videos: PHX FMLY FEST,” originally published Dec. 31, 2012
A celebration of all things local, right in the heart of the Roosevelt District. Good times were had by all.
