Videos: Locals First

Decker., The Riveras, DowningStreet

Arizona bands Decker., The Riveras and DowningStreet all have shows this weekend. Watch recent videos from the bands and find out what they are working on…

Earlier this month, Decker. released the official music video for “Killing Me,” a track from its new album, Slider. The video, directed by Matty Steinkamp of Sundawg Media, shows a toxic relationship between two that mirrors the lyrics of the folky ballad.

Funded by a Kickstarter campaign, in which the band was able to raise nearly three times its pledged goal of $3,800, Slider was released on Feb. 26. This is the fourth album from the band, which formed in 2009.

Decker. will celebrate at the Sail Inn release party (details) this Friday, March 1 with Snake! Snake! Snakes!, Future Loves Past, Dry River Yacht Club, Chimney Choir, Adam Faucett, Field Tripp, Them Savages and Vagabond Gods. The event will kick-off the band’s string of southwest shows in March and April.

The Riveras recently released a music video, featuring artwork and animation by the band’s singer and violinist, Jody Lew. The video is for its latest single “Siren Song” and comes just a month after the delivery of  The Fox.

Both recordings are part of the group’s 2013 project to write, record and release a song and video every month for a year. The Mesa fivepiece is calling it a studio residency and working closely with the people at Arcane Digital Recording to make it happen. All of the songs will be available on Bandcamp, at a price of the fan’s choosing. At the end of the year, The Riveras will do a full-length release, making all of the recordings available on a thumb drive with album art, instead of a physical CD. The residency is an ambitious endeavor that will test the band’s ability to take complete control over the production of its music — from diligently writing and recording, to putting together a full-length album and release party.

In the mean time, catch The Riveras live at Lexx-3 Mercantile for 2013 South By South Roosevelt Music Festival on Saturday, March 2.

While we can’t confirm the relationship statuses of the three members of Phoenix band DowningStreet, Above the Radio recently did a quick-fire interview with the trio as part of its new series “Band Speed Dating.” The 45-second interview includes answers such as “Destiny or Sunshine,” “Pocahontas,” “chocolate chip” and “Kings of Leon.” For good measure, AtR did a full interview with the local band, which can be seen here.

DowningStreet will lend its southern rock sound to the Emby Alexander album release gig this Friday, March 1 at Revolver Records during First Fridays.
