Video: Take Away Show with The Paper Hats
The Paper Hats is one of the newest bands to emerge from the growing Phoenix scene. The five-piece group –of Paula Tesoriero on piano and vocals, Elizabeth Bayer on flute and piccolo, Dominique Holley on clarinet, Josh Papst on guitar and Scott Gleason on drums — has performed a couple live shows around town at Trunk Space and Janey’s Cave Creek.
Tesoriero, Papst and Holley all attend Paradise Valley Community College and met playing in an ensemble at the school. Gleason was a friend of Papst and Tesoriero came to know Bayer through shared connections. Over the course of a couple months, they formed the band.
The Paper Hats takes inspiration from The Beatles, Radiation City, The Mamas and The Papas, and music from the ’60s, and the story behind the band’s name, well… “I really love paper and I really love hats, it seemed whimsical, which is sort of what our music is– whimsical,” says Tesoriero.
In 2015, the group hopes to record new music and play as many shows as possible, including one at Crescent Ballroom. If you’d like to see The Paper Hats live, the band performs on Jan. 22 at Trunk Space with Spring and The Blank Waves.
