‘Bigger Than Sound’ Documents Rise of Charlie Levy, Stateside Presents

Bigger Than Sound is a documentary focused on the uprising of Stateside Presents, a Phoenix– based concert promotion company, and its founder Charlie Levy. The film covers Levy’s beginnings as a concert promoter at Arizona State University and venue Nita’s Hideaway, to the formation of Stateside Presents and the opening of his own music venue in downtown Phoenix, Crescent Ballroom.

Filmmaker Kayla Frost and three of her classmates at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication spent numerous hours working on the documentary over a three-month span. Frost says they’d often be kicked out of the edit bays at the university for staying after hours.

Bigger Than Sound features interviews with Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World, Sam Means of The Format and Hello Merch, Nate Ruess of The Format and Fun., Miniature Tigers, Jeremiah Gratza of Stateside and the man himself, Charlie Levy.

Watch the film below and support local by attending a show at Crescent in the future…
